On Saturday 17th July 2010 England Ladies are taking part in the World Champions Trophy in Nottingham. Also playing that day is the Great Britain mens team. The full schedule is shown below 10:00 - Netherlands v Germany - Women’s Champions Trophy 2010 12:30 - England v New Zealand - Women’s Champions Trophy 2010 15:00 - China v Argentina - Women’s Champions Trophy 2010 17:30 - 3rd v 4th - Men’s Four Nations 20:00 - Final - Men’s Four NationsThe men’s teams taking part are Great Britain, Germany, New Zealand and Japan. I have come up with the following prices £38.00 for concessions (children under 18 and those in full time education) £45.00 for adults This will include travel to and from Nottingham and entry to the tournament for the day ie to watch all the matches, except the first one, as we would need to leave around 7 o’clock in the morning!. Meals, drinks, souvenirs or anything else are not included. Whilst I understand that this is not cheap, to watch four international games in any other sport would be considerably more expensive. I have not booked anything as yet, but the coach would go from the club, leaving at around 9 o’clock to get us there in time for the second game of the day between England ladies and New Zealand ladies. I would not expect us to return to the club until around 1 o’clock the following morning. This offer is open to anyone associated with the club, not just to members and players and I would positively encourage parents grandparents, siblings and friends to come along. We may be able to take responsibility for some unaccompanied children from the club but this is subject to enough adult helpers going along. I am not asking for any commitment at the moment just expressions of interest so that I can gauge whether it is a viable idea. Please let me know if you are interested with likely numbers of adults and children by Sunday 14th March. Feel free to email me or speak to me if you have any questions.

This is an unique opportunity to watch 4 matches of international hockey at a good price and should be an excellent day out. Trevor

By beating Winchmore Hill & Enfield 6-0 on Saturday, we have won the league! A first half hat-trick from Liam and further goals from Macca, Dave Catchpole and Fergus made for a comfortable win, and results then went our way elsewhere in the league. Well done to the Ladies 2s for winning their leaguel, great causes for celebration all round. http://www.east-leagues.co.uk/showdata/leaguetables/EML.Top.asp

Our ladies 2nd XI beat our nearest rivals, Wapping, today, 27th February, to win the Division 3 league with three games in hand and without losing a game. It was a great performance and this is a tremendous achievement for such a young team, newly promoted to this Division this season. Well done girls. Now all we have to do is to win our last three games to maintain our unbeaten record.

Old Southendian 1st XI 5 – 0 Royston 1st XI Scorers: Peoples, Catchpole x 2, O’Kill, Parker MOM: Nick, DOD: Trunchpole Morale was high in the camp as we boarded the Fun Tank and drove to the imposing surroundings of the Bassingbourn Barracks in Cambridgeshire. After gaining security clearance, Captain Calvin led the battle hardened souls of Old Boys 1st Company onto the base. After a bleep test and an assault course for warm-up, we encountered the enemy insurgents from Royston. You get the idea, army reference after army reference after army reference. Wing Commander Catchpole with 2 goals, Defense Unit Specialists Chandler and Cawcutt with crucial interceptions in tight spots, Weapons Specialist Peoples with an incisive drag-flick to open the firing – playing on an army base is like shooting fish in a barrel for a sports writer on the lookout for cheap gags. In truth, the base was more Butlins than Kabal. An inviting dry ski slope populated with scores of local children overlooked the pitch, the sun shone brightly, and an opposition content to play nice hockey, full of neat patterns and potential, but lacking the aggression or conviction up front to pose a serious threat. Even the umpires steered clear of creating any bad feelings or controversy, officiating fairly and consistently throughout. 2-0 up at half time, 5-0 at the end, this was a game blissfully devoid of the tribulations and tight spots in which we have found ourselves in recent weeks. We played composed passing hockey on the slick surface, growing in stature and playing more expansively with every goal we scored. When things are going your way, short corners go in, and indeed we scored from a succession of routines. Mention must also go to Dave Catchpole, whose opening goal, a reverse stick bullet from the top of the D, was right out of the top drawer, albeit with the extended personal jubilation and celebrations that followed only too quick to remind everyone in the vicinity of the pitch of this fact. With 2nd and 3rd both winning, our lead remains at 6 points. 7 points from the last 5 games will secure promotion, with a home game against table-dwelling Fight Club-auditioning Luton Town on Saturday presenting the opportunity to take another big step towards achieving this goal. 2pm push back at Warners, all support welcome. Andy
