Essex U10 (Boys) Competition at Redbridge This is always a very competitive event with the winning team going through to represent Essex in the East Championships. Due to circumstances beyond my control I had to call on a Callum and Harry to play thereby making us into a “friendly” team, playing just for fun. The first game against Old Loughtonians was always going to be tough but we started well. Ben saved a short corner and Callum held his nerve with three O/L’s players bearing down on him. It wasn’t all played in our half, when Tommy played a brilliant ball through to Fred who was unlucky not to score. We lost 4-0. The second game against Upminster saw us putting there defence under a lot of pressure. Once we started to play Theo in, he made some really good runs down the right, one of which resulted in Harry scoring. Again Ben was called upon to make some good saves at the other end and Archie started to get a more of the ball. We won 1-0. Against Brentwood we had all the pressure and were really unlucky not to score. Fred, Tommy, Harry and Theo were lining up to shoot but couldn’t find a way through the mass of Brentwood defenders. Callum, Archie and Ben had much less to do in this game but stayed focussed. Tommy hurt his finger but managed to come back on for the end of the match. Well done. Drew 0-0. Speaking to the Chelmsford coach before the start we were about even with them on results. However they scored three goals early on. Our heads didn’t go down and we fought back we Theo scoring two to put us back in the game. Unfortunately they had a number of subs and fresh legs made all the difference. Highlights were Theo showing some excellent running down the right and Callum dribbling past three of there players. Lost 5-2. The last game against Blue Hornets showed how tired the boys were. Games were 16 minutes when we usually play 10 and with no subs the boys just kept going. No one more than Tommy who was all over the pitch during this game. We lost 3-0. It was the first time playing short corners for most and you all did really well. It was great to watch you all playing for each other. Thank you. Thanks to all our supporters and to Kieran for helping me out, or was it the other way round… Trev
